Perfect for Mother’s Day: Get a massage and support Fillmore!

The merry month of May is a great time to celebrate moms, Spring, the school year wrapping up in just a month, and the general wellness of the world!  Is there a better way to celebrate wellness than with a relaxing massage?  I don’t think so.

AND we have a special opportunity to get a massage and support our favorite teaching center for providing arts instruction to our elementary kids — Fillmore Arts Center!

In the month of May have a massage at The Spa Room, centrally located just below Tenley Circle on Wisconsin Ave, mention the discount code: Fillmore5, and you’ll get $5 off your massage and a $5 donation will be made to the Friends of Fillmore.

We will also be raffling off a free massage, so buy your tickets at the Spring Arts Show on Friday, May 11th.

Journeys Performance, Friday, Jan. 20 at 3pm

As most Fillmore families know, this Friday is a short day for DCPS students.  So, have you been wondering what to do with your children that afternoon?  How about taking them to see their fellow students, third through fifth graders, perform dance, music, and drama?  (There will also be associated visual arts pieces on display too!)

This performance will be the culmination of the Journeys theme the children have been considering over the first half of the year.  The idea of journey is one of telling the story of one’s life and the experiences and situations encountered along this path.

The show will be at 3pm, Friday, January 20th, in the Hardy/Fillmore Auditorium.  Come support the work of our amazing Fillmore students and take a  journey of discovery!

Fabulous Fillmore Video

Key Parent and Friends of Fillmore school rep, Tilman, has happily pulled from the archives an outstanding, student-created and produced video that captures the essence of what Fillmore Arts Center does for its students and how it operates.  Thanks to students from the following Fillmore classes, 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2014, for your impressive efforts!  Pass this on to a friend and LIKE us on YouTube.

Fa, la, la, Fillmore!

The Winter Concert for 3rd to 5th grade Fillmore West students takes place next week! Yes, Monday, December 12 at 7 pm in the Fillmore/Hardy Auditorium.  We hope we have a strong showing of parent and community support.  You don’t need to have a child in the concert to attend.  You can give your child a sneak peek into what they’ll do in future years with Fillmore and help the whole family get into the musical spirit of the season.

The participating groups for the concert are Chorus (Ms. Daniel), Strings (Ms. Purdie), and Intermediate Band (Mr. Bowie).  Also, each group of performers will have an after school rehearsal at Fillmore; see the schedule below.
- Strings:  Dec. 9 from 3:30 to 6pm
- Chorus:  Dec. 7 from 3:45 to 5pm
- Intermediate Band:  Dec. 9 from 3:30 to 4:15pm

Those children who are performing are asked to wear black bottoms and white tops with dark shoes and should report to the auditorium at 6 pm the night of the show.
